Bean Automotive Group joins forces with the Florida Department of Transportation to help inform drivers in Miami-Dade about the risk of distracted driving and the new Florida law banning texting while driving. This is the second year Bean partners up with the FDOT to help promote the “Put It Down” campaign. The campaign has reached more than 153.8 million people through outreach events, campaign posters, email blasts, web banners, and social media messaging.
As the leading auto dealership group in South Florida, we believe it is our responsibility to care for our customers safety and make sure all our customers are well informed. Distracted driving endangers the driver, passenger, and bystander safety. In fact, research suggest that distraction is present during 52% of normal driving. Common distractions can include texting, using a navigation system, eating and drinking, using a cell phone or smartphone.
On July 1st, 2019, a law was passed that states that Florida motorists can now be stopped and cited for texting and driving. However, on October 1st, 2019, wireless communications devices can only be used in a hands-free manner when driving in a designated school crossing, school zone, or active work zone area. Drivers will be issued warnings through December 31st, 2019, but starting January 1st, 2020, drivers will be cited for using a wireless communication device in a handheld manner in a work or school zone.
Our goal is to teach and inform all our customers about what distracted driving is and the consequences of diverting a person’s attention away from driving. That’s why we’ve made sure all four of our dealerships; Kendall Toyota, West Kendall Toyota, Lexus of Kendall, and Lexus of West Kendall are spreading awareness. Customers can find tip cards and flyers with factual information in our dealership service center. Our dealerships social media accounts are also sharing weekly tip cards to help reach those online. We want to make sure our roads are safe for our community.
